February 2012 @ Ann's Raspberry Farm, Fredericktown, Ohio
It's like spring in Ohio this first few weeks of February with bulbs beginning to appear and buds popping out on the trees. Unless we get some surprises, we will be looking forward to a long growing season this year. This is good news for those who are already dreaming of having fresh, locally grown fruits and vegatables on their plates again. Farmer's Markets should be overflowing with these delights early this year if this weather continues.
What are we doing around our farm this time of year?
We just purchased another high tunnel (unheated greenhouse) today. As we invest in our farm, we have you in mind. It is our desire to offer you more chemical-free, fresh berries at your local farmer's market this season as well as to have a greater supply of our delicious jams though next winter.
We will soon be ordering additional plants for our U-pick field to replant and add rows to enlarge this area. Plan to come harvest with us this coming fall and enjoy the beauty of central Ohio's Amish Country. We are one of the very few who offer chemical free U-pick red raspberries. Appointments are necessary in order for us to ensure your visit exceeds your expectations.
We will be ordering our Brussels Sprout plant starts this week from our Amish neighbor and we are planning to double our production of them as well. We have also been searching for more delicious Brussels sprout recipes for you to try as they continue to grow in popularity and use. We have even seen them used fresh in delicious salads as of late. You will surely want to delight your palate with a few of these recipes. Get excited the fresh, local green fare is just around the corner.
As a result of the Good Food Awards 2012, the secret is out about our fine quality product line which has us evaluating offers to carry it on the West Coast, Florida, Texas and Wisconsin from a variety of retailers of fine gourmet foods as well as here in Ohio. If you are looking for our products at your favoirite specialty food store, ask the store manager to contact us.
We are looking forward to seeing you at your local farmer's market in May!
Many Blessings,
Ann Trudel
